Doug Tallamy is the T.A. Baker Professor of Agriculture in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware, where he has authored 104 research publications and taught insect-related courses for 40 years. Chief among his research goals is to better understand the many ways in which insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities. His bookBringing Nature Home, published by Timber Press in 2007 was awarded the 2008 Silver Medal by the Garden Writers’ Association. He co-authoredThe Living Landscapepublished in 2014.
The New York Times Best Seller,Nature’s Best Hope,was released in 2020. It is the blueprint forHOMEGROWNNATIONALPARK.org a 501(c)(3) non-profit Tallamy co-founded.
The organization is a grassroots call-to-action to regenerate biodiversity and ecosystem function by planting native and removing invasive plants. The site features a community based interactive MAP that shows each person’s contribution to planting native by State, County and ZIP code. Importantly the MAP is a way for individuals to see their part in the greater whole -creating new ecological networks and restoring biodiversity. Tallamy’s latest book The Nature of Oaks was released in March 2021. Tallamy was awarded the Garden Club of America Margaret Douglas Medal for Conservation and the Tom Dodd Jr. Award of Excellence in 2013.
